Attack: #ResumeOrResign group suspends protest in Abuja, moves to Lagos

The # OurMumuDonDo Movement has given President Muhammadu Buhari 21 days ultimatum to resume or resign from office.
It said if the President failed to resume or resign , it would seek a court order compelling the Federal Executive Council to set up a committee to appraise his health and determine if he was fit to continue running the country .
The group in a statement on Wednesday said this would be done in line with section 144 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The protesters also announced the suspension of their sit- outs following the Tuesday attack on them at the Wuse Market in Abuja , saying they needed to restrategise.
Giving reasons for the suspension of the protests which had entered its 10th day, Charly boy stated that it was to enable the coalition to restrategise on ways to make their processions less open to violent attacks .
This, he said, was also to better ensure the safety of all members and other participants at sit- outs and peaceful processions in future .
The entertainer said, “ We are not deterred by the intimidation and harassment by the sponsored thugs and we cannot be cowed by a few group of people.
“ What government wants to do is to ensure that we have a clash with the hired crowd and we will not allow that to happen. ”
The group in its statement said sit- outs would however continue to hold in Lagos daily and at the Abuja House in London on Friday .
It said, “ We hereby demand that President Buhari returns to the country and resume duty as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria within 21 days from today (Wednesday) or that he resigns completely from office to enable him to return to Daura to take care of his sickness .
“ Should the President be unable to comply with any of the aforementioned demands within 21 days, we will approach a court seeking an order of mandamus to compel the Federal Executive Council to set up a committee in line with section 144 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended ), to appraise the health of President Buhari and subsequently determine whether or not he can continue to discharge his presidential functions as enshrined in the constitution . ”
However, the management of Wuse Market, Abuja , has said it may take legal action against Charley Boy , and other members of the #ResumeOrResign group following the crisis that rocked the market when they came to stage a protest on Tuesday .
Speaking with one of our correspondents on Wednesday, the Corporate Affairs Manager , Abuja Market Management Limited , Innocent Amaechina , said the protesters should not have staged such a demonstration without authorisation .
He said the management had not yet considered taking legal action against the protesters but it could .
Amaechina said protests were not allowed by the management of the market because “ the market is a multi -religious and multi - ethnic environment and thus the sensibilities of the people must be taken into consideration .”
He , however , assured members of the public that peace had been restored in the market .
When one of our correspondents visited the market around 2 pm on Tuesday , at least 25 armed policemen were seen within the vicinity while an Armoured Personnel Carrier was stationed at the entrance .
Vehicles and pedestrians were searched before being allowed to enter the market.
The FCT Police Command said it rescued Charly Boy and other members of the # ResumeOrResign protesters from hoodlums on Tuesday , noting that many policemen were injured during the incident .
The police further said they prevented the mob from burning a Toyota Prado SUV and a BMW car belonging to the artist .
The force admonished residents to always obtain police permit before engaging in public processions .
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Governor , Mr . Ayodele Fayose, has condemned the attacks on the protesters, describing it as the height of dictatorship and demonstration of intolerance to opposing views by the All Progressives Congress government .
The governor said he was particularly miffed by the “ orchestrated attacks ” on the protesters at Wuse Market, Abuja .
He said, “ By arranging hoodlums to attack Nigerians who were exercising their fundamental rights to protest against the government, the APC government has shown that it has lost support and trust of Nigerians . ”
Fayose in a statement by his Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media , Lere Olayinka , on Wednesday stated that any attempt to silence Nigerians , especially those opposed to the APC government would fail .
But some Niger Delta Youths led by Michael Johnny, have staged a protest in support of President Buhari , saying his ill - health and absence from office did not constitute an impeachable offence.
